Mommy's Little Helper

Shayna is at a stage where she has to help me with everything, and her favorite is unloading/loading the dishwasher. As much as I love the fact she want to "help" me with every little thing, sometimes it would just be easier to do it myself and get it done. I try to sneak and put things away fast, but the little booger always catches me doing her job, lol. Oh well, I still find it incredibly cute.

Houston, we have progress.

I am convinced that potty training will either be my slow demise or cause me to hide in a corner twitching obscenities, thus committing me to the psych ward. This is either the 5th or 6th go around of trying to get Shayna to just sit on the potty, and up until last night, I thought I was going to have to quit again after advice from a lady that comes to see us for Healthy Families. I had tried everything from letting her go naked, to using big girl panties so she wouldn't like the feeling of being wet, and trying rewards. She just flat showed no interest and wasn't bothered in the least to wet herself, and to make matters worse, she screamed bloody murder when I would sit her on her little potty. I had also tried the big potty in the past with the same story.

Well, last night, after changing the 5,690,736,738,328 diaper, I sat her on the toilet in the bathroom and she actually sat without tears or any tantrums. This may sound like pointless info to most seeing as how she didn't actually do anything in the toilet, but for me it was a huge sigh of relief because I could actually get her to just sit there without the waterworks.

Small baby steps and hopefully she'll be out of diapers by the time high school rolls around. I'm not pushing it today and will go back to it tomorrow. I know there is no point if she isn't ready so I'm just going to work on getting the sitting on the toilet thing down first.

The White Death and the movie "Fireproof"

I'm sitting here in absolute amazement after having just finished one of the best movies I have seen in years, and I literally mean YEARS. If you are a Christian and you are married, I highly recommend this movie, especially if your marriage is in trouble. Now, my marriage is not in trouble, but I still got a lot out of this movie anyway. However, had I watched this when I was an Agnostic, I'm not quite sure I would have taken as much from it as I did tonight, and even though he would never admit it, David got out a lot out of it as well.

The movie is based on a book called "The Love Dare," and it teaches couples daily things to do throughout a 40 day process to try and save their marriage. I am so glad I to have watched this with my husband since we have just started going back to church and are really trying to be better Christians.

On a lighter, and not so serious note, we have been trapped in the house, only able to go 5 minutes away due to what I now refer as "The White Death." I woke up to this giant pile of white crap........err I mean winter wonderland this morning. So, for all you southerners who wish for snow, you can live vicariously through these pics and be glad you don't need a snow blower or tractor just to get out of your driveway after the wind gives you 2-3 ft snow drifts.

Old pics from Shayna's 2nd birthday party.

More pics. These are from her actual 2nd birthday on March 5, 2009 and from her party a few days later.

Shameless Picture Post Part Deux

These are from when she was 22-24 months, so Jan-March of 2009.

Shameless Picture Post

Since I just started writing in here again after well over a year, there are TONS of pics that have not yet made it to this blog. The following are when Shayna was 19-21 months old, which would have been late September-December. There are also Christmas pics from 2008 in this bunch (told you I was way behind). So grab a snack and a drink because you might be here a while.

Check out this old school high chair. Every child that has been born into the family for the past 27 years has used this thing, starting with yours truly.
